Mandatory Due Dates

Set Grace period and Complete by on mandatory targets so learners see a Finish by date and Analyze can mark Overdue.

What This Is For

When a visibility target is Mandatory, you can set a due date so people know when the content must be finished—and so Analyze can mark unfinished work as Overdue.

You configure due dates with two controls on the target:

ControlWhat it means
Grace periodMinimum number of days the person has to finish, counted from when they gain visibility.
Complete byOptional calendar date. Used only when it gives them more time than the grace period.

Together they produce each person’s due date. Learners see it as Finish by on the content in Learn and Home. If someone has more than one mandatory assignment for the same content, the earliest due date wins.

Visibility start and Visibility end still control when people can see the content. They are not the due date. Details: Time-Restricted Access.

Who This Is For

Administrators and collaborators who assign Mandatory content in Create.

Before You Start

  • The content is ready to assign (usually published).
  • You know who the target is (group or user) and whether the target is Mandatory.
  • Optional: workspace Mandatory Content Reminders for recurring nudges on unfinished mandatory items.

Steps

  1. Open the content in Create → Visibility and targets.
  2. Add targets or open an existing target.
  3. Turn Mandatory on for that target.
  4. Set Grace period (days). The default is often 7; use the stacked controls or type a whole number greater than zero.
  5. Optionally set Complete by if you want a fixed calendar deadline when that date is later than the grace period.
  6. Save.

How the Due Date Is Chosen

  1. Skillhabit counts the Grace period from when the person gains visibility (visibility start, or when they join the target—whichever is later).
  2. If you also set Complete by, that date is used only when it gives more time than the grace period.
  3. The result is shown to the learner as Finish by.
  4. After that date passes, unfinished people are marked Overdue in Analyze (User results → enrollment filter Overdue, or the Overdue chip on the row).

Result

Mandatory assignees see a clear Finish by date, get the usual new-mandatory email (and optional bi-weekly reminders), and show as Overdue in Analyze when they miss the due date.
