Meetup Occasions at Academy Checkout
Pick a meetup date at Academy checkout and see how reserved seats become Attending in Learn.
What This Is For
When you buy a meetup (or a program that includes meetups) from Academy, checkout can ask you to choose an occasion—a date and time—before you pay. This page explains how that seat is held, when it becomes Attending, and what to do if the date passes before Learn unlocks the meetup.
Reserved is a soft hold that protects capacity until Learn confirms Attending. More detail: Reserved and Attending.
Who This Is For
Buyers completing Academy checkout. Administrators and authors who sell meetups or programs with meetups should know the same flow so capacity and unlock rules stay clear.
Before You Start
- Checkout only shows the meetup date step when a meetup in the cart has at least one bookable upcoming occasion with seats left. Programs that include meetups skip that step when none of those dates are open.
- Full or past occasions are not selectable.
- When the occasion you pick asks for one, you can leave a short Message to organizer (diet, accessibility, or other notes). The question on the field is the one the author set for that date.
- If you already started an order for this product, Academy opens it again (Purchase in progress) instead of starting a second checkout.
Steps
- Add the meetup or program to the cart and start checkout. Use Purchase in progress if you already have an open order for that product.
- When the date step appears, pick an occasion for each meetup that has bookable dates. Add a Message to organizer when that occasion asks for one.
- Watch the hold on the page: Meetup seat reserved for … more (or Your meetup seat is reserved while this order is open). If the hold expires, you see The reserved meetup seat is no longer held. You can still complete payment, or cancel this order and start again.
- Complete payment—or choose Cancel order to release the seat and stop this checkout.
- Open Learn when you are ready to take the content. If the seat stayed Reserved, finishing the blocking prep upgrades it to Attending automatically.
How the Seat Is Held
| Stage | What happens to the seat |
|---|---|
| You start checkout and pick a date | Soft Reserved hold while you finish payment (about 30 minutes). The page counts down the remaining time. Cancel order or abandoning checkout releases the hold. |
| Payment succeeds and nothing is locking the meetup in Learn | Seat becomes Attending for that occasion—same as signing up in Learn. |
| Payment succeeds but Learn still locks the meetup | Seat stays Reserved. You do not need to buy again. |
| You finish the prep that unlocks the meetup | The reserved date upgrades to Attending automatically. Opening the meetup overview also confirms it if needed. |
| The occasion starts (or registration closes) while you are still Reserved | The reservation is released. When the meetup unlocks, pick a later occasion in Learn. |
When Learn Still Locks the Meetup
A paid meetup can stay Reserved until you can use it in Learn. That happens when:
- A program uses locked order (you must finish earlier parts first), or
- The meetup (or program step) has prerequisites you have not completed yet
Finish the required prep in Learn. When that unlocks the meetup, Skillhabit upgrades the reserved occasion to Attending automatically. Status on the meetup overview then shows Attending.
If that reserved date has already passed, choose another upcoming occasion in Learn—your purchase still covers access.
While the seat is Reserved and you can see the meetup (or a program that includes it), Skillhabit emails you about one week and one day before registration closes. After the seat becomes Attending, reminders follow the occasion start instead.
Result
Buyers commit to a date at checkout. Capacity is protected during payment and after purchase. A Reserved seat after payment stays a hold until unlock upgrades it to Attending—or until you rebook if the original date expired.
