Attributes That Follow Your Org Chart
When department is not enough, nest Region under Country under Team—and let people (and your API) pick the path the same way.
Flat dropdowns fall apart when the real answer is “Sweden → Stockholm → Team A.” You can now model that tree once, and everyone—from profiles to smart groups to the External API—speaks the same path language.
In the product
- Nested choices on Attributes — Under Configure → Attributes, set Hierarchy (next to type and accessibility), nest choices under parents, pick Single control or Stepped levels, and use Allow Other when a level needs free text. Required fields must end on a leaf. Details: Custom Attribute Fields.
- Profiles and Users & Groups — People set hierarchical values on their profile and when you edit someone in Users & Groups—same stepped or single picker as registration.
- Smart groups — Keep using select attributes for rules. Integrations can match a whole branch with
IS_UNDERon the API. See Smart Groups.
For integrations
- Create trees, set paths, page children — Define
parentChoiceIdon choices, assign answers withpaths(and optionalfreeText), and load one level at a time withGET /custom-fields/{id}/choices. Recipe: Hierarchical Custom Fields.
